I need computer help with mac, firefox, and .exe?

im not too good with computers but i know a little about. i have an older (maybe 4years) macbook (not pro or anything) and im using firefox so i can use a toolbar for thing i need download and stuff. but the things i download are exe or whatever and come up as text. what can i download/use to get the exe to work on my mac
