Why does DeSmuME keep closing?

I recently won Pokemon black on my Nintendo DS for the third time or so and I got bored of it, so I decided to try using the DeSmuME emulator on my computer and try Pokemon white instead. My problem is that after I installed DeSmuME 9.7 from their website, it worked the first time and I got fairly far in the game. I saved and now whenever I try to open the game, DeSmuME always reports with "DeSmuMe.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" with the Error report buttons at the bottom. I tried installing the system again and installing 9.6 but the same error occurred. I keep the 9.7 I originally had on my computer because I don't want to lose my place in the game and it's irritating that I can't access the saved file on any other DeSmuME. Is there a reason DeSmuME keeps closing, and how can I fix this and play my game again?
