The replay shows Cousins launched himself at Posey rather than the plate. Should this be allowed?
I agree that this was one of the dirtiest plays in recent memory, but the problem is that the umpires often have the same mentality as the local teenage violence freaks, who think that going out of the baseline to injure another is part of the game. So if we change the rule, the umps will just find some way to interpret the rule to make everything look ridiculous. Remember that period in 1989 when they retaliated against a rule change, by calling 5-10 balks every game? If MLB had any brains, then Cousins (and everyone else who deliberately injures an opponent) would be suspended until the sky falls, and that would be that. Keep it out of the hands of the umps. And the teenage violence freaks that are so numerous here.
